| Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka is organising an Evening of Folk Songs by Mrs. Nadira Begum at 6:30 PM on January 14, 2012 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, H.No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1. Mrs. Nadira Begum is one of the veteran Folk song artists of Bangladesh being enlisted as a Special Category artist on Bangladesh Radio in 1962 and on Bangladesh Television in 1967. She is currently a Music Director and Lyricist for both the Bangladesh Radio and Television. Born in Joypurhat, Mrs. Begum has trained under her father A.K.M. Abdul Aziz, Ustad Fajlul Haque, Ustad Umed Ali Khan, Ustad Narayan Chandra Bosak, Ustad Akhter Sadmani and Abdul Latif. Mrs. Begum, a veteran Muktijoddha, is presently the Chairperson of the Department of Folk Songs at Chayyanaut in Dhaka, Chairperson of the Bhawaiya Academy of Bangladesh and an Honorary Lecturer at the Government Music College. She has released several albums on Folk Songs. Mrs. Begum has extensively travelled abroad for performances. She has visited Afghanistan, India, the erstwhile Soviet Union, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Egypt, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Turkey, USA, Canada, China, Japan, Hongkong and Australia as member of Government and private cultural delegations.
