The High Commission of India, Dhaka in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations will be organizing the 2nd session of Mohiniyattam Dance/Workshop from February 21, 2009 to be conducted by Ms. Pallavi Krishnan, one of the most renowned exponents of Mohiniyattam.

2. Mohiniyattam is a lyrical classical dance traditions, originating from Kerala, the land of palm trees, backwaters, caparisoned elephants, Kathakali and Koodiyattam, and innumerable folk arts and festivals. Its movements are soft and graceful (lasya oriented) and soaked in feminine grace. Mohini means ‘enchantress’ and attam means ‘dance’; Mohiniyattam is the dance of the enchantress traditionally performed by women.

3. Pallavi Krishnan is a leading exponent of Mohiniyattam. She is known for her tremendous efforts to promote and preserve this style of Indian classical dance as a living tradition. She is an alumnus of both Shantiniketan (Viswa Bharati University) and Kerala Kalamandalam. Pallavi has enriched the repertoire of Mohiniyattam by choreographing many items, both traditional and thematic. She has already successfully held the first session of Mohiniyattam Dance in Bangladesh from April 2 to May 1, 2008.

4. The dance course will be conducted at the High commission’s Dance and Music Training Centre, House No. 24, Road No. 2, Dhanmondi Residential Area. Interested persons may contact the information and Cultural Wing of the High Commission at ( 9888789-91 Ext. 250) or ‘Dance and Music Teaching Centre’ at (8615491) to get themselves registered by January 20, 2009.
