| Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka is organising an Evening of Ghazals by Mrs. Sameera Abbasi at 6:30 PM on July 23, 2011 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, H.No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1. Samira, granddaughter of legendary musician Abbasuddin Ahmed, daughter of leading Bangladeshi folk music exponent, Mustafa Zaman Abbasi, and niece of acclaimed Nazrul sangeet exponent, Mrs. Ferdausi Rahman, commenced her training in music at the age of four. She has trained in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music under legendary artists like Ustad Akhter Shadmani, Ustad Momtaz Uddin Ahmed and Ustad Niaz Mohammed Choudhury. Currently she is receiving training under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty of the Patiala Gharana. A Bangladeshi expatriate to the US, Samira has established a music school -- Abbasuddin Academy in Chicago and is training many young and adult musicians. She has performed in more than 200 concerts in Kolkata, Paris, Singapore, London and many cities of the United States that included performances for Banga Sammelans and FOBANA concerts. Samira released her first album of Ghazals in 2007 and would be releasing another one later this year. She has performed in the Bangladesh National TV and Radio several times. In 2010 she received an award of distinction from the Folder Poetry Group for her contribution in music. Besides her love for music, Samira is an environmental engineer and a writer. She completed her Graduation from the Johns Hopkins and Northwestern University and presently resides in South Florida.
