The First Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting was held on 3rd August 2012 in New Delhi. Mr. Tapos Kumar Roy, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power led the Bangladesh delegation. Indian delegation was headed by Mr. Alok Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The meeting was a follow up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on India-Bangladesh Renewable Energy Cooperation signed on 6th September 2011 at Dhaka during the visit of Prime Minister of India. Both sides briefed each other on the present status and growth potential of renewable energy of their respective countries. During the meeting five areas of cooperation were identified. They include information exchange, institutional support, technical support, capacity building and Research and Development (R&D). Indian side invited the Bangladesh side to send its professionals to visit the institutions, field installations and also to participate in the specialized training programme. Indian side also expressed its desire to learn more about the success of off-grid Solar Home System (SHS) programme in Bangladesh. During the meeting, it was agreed that a joint seminar will be organized focused on the identified areas of cooperation. The next JWG will take place in early next year in Dhaka.
