ARTIFICIAL ROCK CLIMBING WALL HANDED OVER TO BANGLADESH ARMY BY HIGH COMMISSIONER OF INDIA

Sylhet: 30 July 2009. During visit to Bangladesh in July 2008, Chief of the Army Staff, Indian Army, General Deepak Kapoor, PVSM,AVSM,SM,VSM,ADC announced the gifting of an Artificial Rock Climbing Wall to Bangladesh Army. The Rock Wall was handed over to Bangladesh Army by H.E. Mr. Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, today at a grand ceremony at Jallabad Cantonment, Sylhet. Maj Gen Abdul Hafiz, psc, Chief of General Staff, Army Headquarters, Dhaka took over the Rock Wall on behalf of Chief of the Army Staff, Bangladesh Army, General Abdul Mubeen, ndc,psc.

The construction of the Rock Wall was completed within a record time of 120 days at Jallalabad Cantonment,Sylhet by a private firm deputed by the Indian Army. With a vertical height of 12 mtrs the imposing Rock Climbing Wall is a training aid for troops to carry out rock climbing, slithering, wrappling and other aspects of Commando and mountain training. This training aid is designed for multipurpose activities and will prove an excellent training platform for the Bangladesh Army.
