December 14, 2009 - Visit of Bangladesh delegation to participate in Vijay Diwas celebrations at Kolkata from December 14 to 17, 2009
 
A delegation from Bangladesh consisting of 14 (fourteen) Muktijodhas led by Major General (Retd) Muhammad Ainuddin, Bir Protik, psc and three serving officers of the Armed Forces of Bangladesh led by Major General Abdul Matin, afwc, psc, ptsc left for Kolkata on December 14, 2009 to celebrate ‘Vijay Diwas’ at the invitation of the Government of India.

The delegation has been invited for the ‘Vijay Diwas’ celebrations at Kolkata from December 14 to 17, 2009. India commemorates 16 December each year as ‘Vijay Diwas’ in memory of soldiers, sailors, air warriors and civilians of the Indian Armed forces and Muktijodhas of Bangladesh in 1971, who took part in the War of Liberation of Bangladesh. It marks the victory of the Indian Army and Bangladesh freedom fighters which led to the birth of Bangladesh.

To commemorate this day, the valiant freedom fighters of Bangladesh are invited each year by the Government of India to Kolkata. Since 2008, in addition to Muktijodhas, three serving officers’ are also being invited for the celebrations. In addition to laying of wreaths at the War Memorial “Vijay Smarak” by Major General (Retd) Muhammad Ainuddin, Bir Protik, psc and Major General Abdul Matin, afwc, psc, ptsc, Bangladesh delegation will attend various other functions that have been organised in Kolkata on the occasion.

Indian War veterans of the 1971 War and various civilian and military dignitaries will also attend these celebrations. The delegation will return to Dhaka on December 17, 2009.
