Indira Gandhi Culture Centre
The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, is a Cultural Centre of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations of India in Bangladesh. It was formally inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Karan Singh, Hon’ble President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, along with H.E. Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Hon’ble Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, on March 11, 2010. Details INSTALLATIONS OF INDIRA GANDHI CULTURAL CENTRE IN DHAKA The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre caters to a wide range of activities for promoting exchanges in the fields of art, music, dance, theatre, etc. between India and Bangladesh. The Centre undertakes its activities from the following locations in Dhaka: Details Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (Teaching Academy) The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhanmondi is located in the cultural hub of Dhaka in close proximity with important Government cultural organisations and educational institutions like the Shilpakala Academy, National Museum, Shishu Academy, Dhaka University, Bangla Academy etc as also other foreign cultural organisations like Alliance Francaise, Russian Cultural Centre, Iranian Cultural Centre and others. It is mainly a Teaching Academy having dedicated spaces for trainings in Yoga, Hindustani Classical Vocal Music, Tabla, Kathak dance, Hindi and Painting. Details Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, (Library and Auditorium) The Centre’s premise at Gulshan comprises of a multi-purpose Auditorium, a Conference Hall and a Library-cum-Resource Centre with over 21,000 books in the fields of Indian Art, Culture, Politics, Economics and Fictions. Training in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is imparting training in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music under expert guidance of Mr. Saurav Kumar Nahar from India at Dhanmondi and Gulshan as per the following schedule Details The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is imparting training in Tabla under expert guidance of Mr. Gopal Mishra from India at Dhanmondi and Gulshan as per the following schedule Details The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is imparting training in Kathak dance under expert guidance of Mrs. Monalisa Roy from India at Dhanmondi and Gulshan as per the following schedule Details The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is imparting training in Hindi language under expert guidance of Mrs. Anamika Pandey from India at Dhanmondi and Gulshan as per the following schedule Details The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organising Painting classes under expert guidance of Mrs. Hira Rani Biswas at Dhanmondi and Mr. Shaktinomman at Gulshan as per the following schedule Details CULTURAL PROGRAMMES Performances of Indian Maestros in Bangladesh In the last year, prominent Indian cultural artists like Pandit Jasraj (Hindustani Classical Vocal Music), Mrs. Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta (Rabindra Sangeet), Mrs. Vidya Shah (Hindustani Classical Vocal Music), Mr. Soumitra Chattapadhyay (Poetry Recitation), Dr. Indrani Sen (Rabindra Sangeet), Mr. Abhirup Guhathakurta (Rabindra Sangeet), Mrs. Bratati Bandopadhyay (Poetry Recitation), Mrs. Monalisa Ghosh (Odissi Dance), Pandit Sarathi Chatterjee (Hindustani Classical Vocal Music), Mr. Abhishek Lahiri (Sarod recital) have performed in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Shahzadpur, Shilaidah, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh and other cities in Bangladesh. Details Performances of Bangladeshi artists at IGCC, Gulshan The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre also organises cultural evenings of noted Bangladeshi artists at its auditorium in Gulshan every weekend on Friday and Saturday. Leading Bangladeshi artists like Mrs. Farida Parveen, Mrs. Aditi Mohasin, Mrs. Lily Islam, Mrs. Shabnam Mushtari, Mrs. Shakila Zafar, Mrs. Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Mr. Subir Nandi, Mrs. Ferdous Ara etc have performed in our Centre. Details Other regular cultural programmes of IGCC The Centre also organises Film shows, book launches, painting exhibitions, dance programmes, international conferences and poetry recitations involving Indian and Bangladeshi artists on a regular basis. A book “Rabi Bichitra” published by the High Commission of India in Dhaka was launched in the Centre in June 2011 by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the Dhaka University, H.E. Prof. A.A.M.S. Arefin Siddique along with the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Rajeet Mitter. Details Monthly cultural programme schedule of IGCC The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre also presents Bengali and Hindi film shows at its auditorium in Gulshan every Thursday. The original DVDs of popular films projected on the big screen have been very popular with the Bangladeshi audience in recent times. The Centre organised a Retrospective of Films of noted Bangladeshi Film makers, Tareque Masud and Catherine Masud at its auditorium in October 2011.
