India - Bangladesh Relations Documents

India and Bangladesh enjoy extensive and wide-ranging relations covering a number of areas of mutual interest. The peoples of the two countries have enjoyed traditionally close geographical, historical, cultural and ethnic ties, which is growing from strength to strength. India follows a policy of expanding and deepening its friendly ties with Bangladesh on the basis of respect for each other's sovereignty and mutual benefit.

Regular exchanging of high level visits take place between the two countries, which underscores the importance attached by the leadership of the two countries to maintaining ties and to promote mutual understanding and goodwill between the two countries.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina paid a landmark visit to India from January 10-13, 2010. A Joint Communiqué issued during the visit laid out the comprehensive framework of cooperation for development between the two countries as agreed to between the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh.
