____________________Muktijoddhas depart for Bijoy Divas Celebrations in India
A group of eighteen prominent Muktijoddhas from Bangladesh led by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Imam-Uz-Zaman left for Kolkata on 14 th December 2007 to join the Indian Army in celebrating Bijoy Divas jointly at Fort William , Headquarters of Eastern Command of Indian Army. Some of the other well known Muktijoddhas in the group include Col. Abu Osman Choudhury Sector Commander, Ali Zaker, Sara Zaker and Bulbul Mahalanobis.
The celebration will be held from 14-16 th December and include a Tattoo and Military Band Display, a Cultural Programme and Bara Khana with the Indian Army troops on 14-15 th December. This will be followed by wreath laying ceremony at Vijay Smarak (Memorial to Indian Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Liberation War of Bangladesh) and later a reception at Army Command Mess on 16 th December.
Government of India has now instituted joint celebration of valiant freedom fighters and Indian Army every year, so as to enable patriots on both sides to revive memories of Liberation War as also creating greater awareness among younger generation about enormous sacrifices made by Indian Army and Muktijoddhas, which led to a spectacular victory of Allied forces in 1971 war.
The Mutkijoddhas are scheduled to return back to Bangladesh from India on 17 th December 2007 .
